SARAJEVO, January 28 (FENA) – Yesterday, Bosnia and Herzegovina marked the 81st anniversary of the Igman March, one of the most significant operations within the National Liberation War (NOB) in the Second World War, with a traditional march to Mount Igman and with a number of other events.

The traditional march began with the laying of wreaths to honor the members of the 1st Proletarian Brigade.

The breakthrough of the 1st Proletarian Brigade through the German siege was made on the night of 27 January 1942 over Mount Igman, the mountain overlooking Sarajevo.

The brigade marched through deep snow as temperatures hit -30 degrees Celsius. The exhausted soldiers started to fall asleep while walking and began to hallucinate.

However, the unit managed to escape to the eastern town of Foča.

Like every year, anti-fascists from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region came to mark the anniversary.

This year's event once again gathered a large number of participants who cherish anti-fascist values and heritage, and as the president of the Organizing Committee, Ibrahim Durmo, told FENA, everything went according to the program and in a friendly atmosphere.

Among many participants was Albin Pibernik, the youngest surviving participant of the Igman March in 1942, and he also addressed the attendees.

Traditionally, the event was attended by a large number of young people, as well as members of non-governmental and sports organizations.
