SARAJEVO, November 3 (FENA) - The civil sector plays a significant role in strengthening democracy and contributes to the solution of social needs by providing citizens with the opportunity to nominate and initiate the solution of certain problems and act together toward decision-makers, is the key message from today's presentation of the project "PRAGG - Proactive citizens". The project gathered more than 60 representatives of civil society organizations from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region.
PRAGG, as stated by the international manager of that project, Csilla Schalbert, aims to support and empower citizens, especially socially excluded groups, to participate more actively in advocating and creating public policies and social changes in BiH through their involvement in civil society organizations.
PRAGG is financed by Switzerland and implemented by the consortium HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation and NIRAS in partnership with the Centers for Civil Initiatives (CCI) and the Institute for Youth Development KULT.
Siroco Messerli, director of cooperation at the Embassy of Switzerland in Bosnia and Herzegovina, said that citizens are at the center of attention of Swiss support to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The needs of young people, the integration of socially excluded persons, and gender equality are among the most important topics.
Executive Director of the Institute for Youth Development KULT Šeherzada Halimić said that most of what is important for our lives happens in local communities, that is, where we live, and that these communities are the place where their voices should be heard.
