SARAJEVO, October 21 (FENA) – The situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina regarding the influx of migrants is not alarming at the moment. The total number of arrivals is stagnating, looking at the process for a long time, the Ministry of Security of BiH told FENA.
It is expected that the situation will be further 'calmed' by the conclusions of yesterday's meeting in Berlin, where representatives of the interior ministers of the European Union and the Western Balkans gathered within the framework of the Berlin process.
The Balkan countries are invited to harmonize the visa regime with EU standards in order to prevent illegal migration and fight human smugglers.
Bosnia and Herzegovina mostly has a harmonized regime, the BiH Ministry of Security said today, and the focus has been on Serbia for some time due to its visa-free regime with some countries from which there have also been arrivals of migrants on the "Balkan route”.
As one of the participants, German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser said after the Berlin meeting, her country wants to drastically reduce illegal migration via the mentioned route in cooperation with the Western Balkan countries.
According to her, a package of measures was agreed upon for this purpose, which includes the harmonization of visa regimes with European Union policy, the fight against human smugglers and the effective protection of external borders with the help of Frontex.
The emphasis in Minister Feaser's address was on preventing illegal migration.
