SARAJEVO, October 16 (FENA) - The Union for Sustainable Return and Integration in BiH organized the education yesterday in Sarajevo on the basic principles of investigative journalism for 30 young people from several towns and municipalities in Bosnia and Herzegovina as part of the project "Strengthening the role of young leaders in local communities by forming a network of young journalists/researchers".

The goal is to launch an internet portal where young people will point out the problems in their communities in the hope that, by alleviating the causes, they will contribute to stopping the departure of their peers from Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Union for Sustainable Return and Integration in BiH told FENA.

Since 2013, the Union has been monitoring the phenomenon called 'brain drain' and decided that by forming a kind of network of young investigative journalists, representatives of the young population should do something to change the situation in their own local communities.

The Union for Sustainable Return and Integration in BiH started the implementation of the mentioned project in the beginning of September.

The project is financed by the Canadian Fund for Local Initiatives, and is implemented in ten municipalities or cities of Bosnia and Herzegovina: Sanski Most, Odžak, Lukavac, Maglaj, Čapljina, Zvornik, Bratunac, Doboj, Prijedor and Prnjavor.

“With the project, we want to focus on young people who are a vulnerable category and are not given the opportunity to publicly articulate their problems. The media for public information do not have space for quality and continuous 'covering' of these issues. In selected municipalities, through a combination of new communication systems and traditional media, we want to create a platform for solving the problem of 'surplus or deficiency of professions', as well as solving the problem of the first employment of young people. We also want to work on reporting on the needs of young people and advocating this topic so that governments can create models and mechanisms for the establishment of a more acceptable environment for young people and the problems they face,” the Union for Sustainable Return and Integration in BiH pointed out on the occasion of the mentioned project.
