SARAJEVO, September 14 (FENA) - According to the preliminary results of the listing currently carried out by the FBiH Ministry of Spatial Planning, more than 4,000 public buildings in the Federation of BiH, which is more than 50 percent, require the implementation of energy efficiency measures.

FBiH Minister of Spatial Planning Josip Martić confirmed this in an interview for FENA, on the occasion of the international conference "Improving the environment for energy efficiency in the sector of public buildings in Bosnia and Herzegovina", which the Ministry organized today in Sarajevo.

Speaking about how greater energy efficiency can be achieved in public facilities in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, he says that the Revolving Fund will enable the implementation of energy efficiency measures in public facilities in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina through the allocation of grants and interest-free loans in the future.

The Government of the FBiH established the Revolving Fund as a financial mechanism with the aim of collecting and managing financial resources, i.e. a mechanism for sustainable financing of energy efficiency projects in the FBiH, especially when it comes to public buildings, which will be implemented by the FBiH Ministry of Spatial Planning in cooperation with the FBiH Ministry of Finance.

“The funds of this Fund are used to grant loans to administration bodies from the territory of the FBiH (FBiH, cantonal and city/municipal bodies and public institutions), in accordance with the approved spending program, which, at the proposal of the FBiH Ministry of Spatial Planning, will be adopted once a year by the Government of the FBiH,” explained Martić.

He believes that the energy-efficient renovation of buildings in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina is an opportunity for new investments and the initiation of massive construction works through the application of new materials and technologies, and sustainable construction.

The Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina recognized energy efficiency as support for the sustainable economic development of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the way to the EU and therefore entered into a series of projects through which this goal is achieved.

By implementing activities within the BEEP project, CO2 emissions are expected to decrease by almost 9,000 tons per year, while energy savings on an annual level amount to 29.5 million kWh.

The FBiH Ministry of Spatial Planning organized the international conference "Improving the environment for energy efficiency in the sector of public buildings in BiH", which gathered domestic and international experts, who discussed all aspects relevant to EE in public buildings, especially financing models and capacity building.
