NEUM, August 5 (FENA) - Mayor of Neum, Dragan Jurković, issued a Decision declaring a state of natural disaster in the Municipality of Neum.
The decision was made due to a large fire that hit the Municipality of Neum on August 2, and at the suggestion of the Municipal Headquarters of Civil Protection, the mayor's office announced.
"This Decision declares a state of natural disaster caused by a large fire in an open area, which occurred on August 2, 2022, in part of the Neum Municipality, and in populated places Podžablje, Broćanac, Praovice and Prapratnica," the announcement reads.
It is said that numerous olive trees were destroyed in the fire, but also that a large number of beehives and other crops grown in this area were destroyed.
"The Municipality of Neum and its residents have suffered enormous damage that will only add up," it was explained.
The situation on the ground calmed down after three days of constant extinguishing by the local fire brigade, numerous locals, fire brigades from neighboring municipalities and cities, and finally with the help of helicopters from the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
