SARAJEVO, July 15 (FENA) - Head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Mission in BiH Laura Lungarotti and BiH coordinator for the fight against human trafficking Samir Rizvo presented today an advanced mobile application that will improve the assessment and more proactive identification of victims of human trafficking.

The mobile application, as they pointed out, was created to facilitate and improve the identification of victims of human trafficking, which enables the engagement of citizens in a proactive approach to identification of potential victims of human trafficking in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The application was presented at a press conference on the occasion of the completion of the three-year project "Strengthening Counter-Trafficking Efforts in BiH" the implementation of which was supported by the U.S. Department of State: Bureau of Intl Narcotics & Law Enforcement (US DoS/INL).

Lungarotti presented the past experiences and involvement of IOM in the field of combating human trafficking, and emphasized that this organization will continue to provide support to BiH authorities in this area.

“During these three years, we have done a lot in building and strengthening capacities for recognition and detection. We have not forgotten that we provide assistance to victims and that we do so in a way that is sensitive to the needs of victims. IOM has been engaged in the fight against human trafficking since the early '90s of the 20th century and we have more than 150,000 victims to whom we provide assistance worldwide and we have a global database that allows us to understand the key trends in human trafficking around the world,” stated Lungarotti.

Human trafficking was mainly sexual exploitation, and now there is an increasing focus on workers and male victims, and it is necessary to recognize this phenomenon in order to respond to it as best as possible, Lungarotti stressed.

State coordinator for the fight against human trafficking, Samir Rizvo, said that they have achieved a lot by working together in these three years. He reminded that human trafficking is a phenomenon that has serious social, health and other implications, and as such represents a very serious security risk for every society and country.

“I would like to express my gratitude for the support of the US Government and the IOM for everything they have done, as well as satisfaction with the results we have achieved and everything we have done has already been recognized by international monitoring mechanisms,” said Rizvo.

He added that since 2000, when the Strategy was adopted, BiH has done a lot to implement and suppress, as far as possible, the phenomenon of human trafficking.

“Bearing in mind the resources we have at our disposal in Bosnia and Herzegovina, we could not do it on our own and fortunately we had great support from international donors and organizations that implemented such projects. We are concluding one of those projects today, which was financed by the US Government and implemented by the IOM,” added Rizvo.
