MOSTAR, July 12 (FENA) - After a public hearing held in May of this year, where citizens and environmental associations showed that they were against the construction of small hydropower plants Buna 1 and 2, the Agency for watershed of the Adriatic sea rejected the investor's request for a preliminary water permit for the construction of the small HPPs on the Buna River.
The representative of the informal group of citizens (NGG) "Stop the construction of small HPPs on the Buna River" Miroslav Barišić said that they are happy that step by step they are moving towards the permanent protection of the Buna River channels, according to the press release.
"We have three long months ahead of us, during which we will work on amending the Spatial Plan of the City of Mostar, because until the amended spatial plan is adopted, the current one is in force, in which two small hydroelectric power plants are drawn on the Buna channels, on the basis of which the investor would have legal the possibility to obtain the necessary permits. However, all these decisions made in favor of protecting the interests of citizens give us an incentive not to give up. Our fight continues, we will not give up until the Buna river channels are permanently protected, and this will also happen when the Government of Herzegovina - Neretva Canton terminates the concession contract for these two HPPs" Barišić pointed out.
