SARAJEVO, June 14 (FENA) - The regional project "Smart Balkans - Civil Society for a Connected Western Balkans" was presented today at a conference in Sarajevo, focusing on the perspective of stability and security in the Western Balkans, as well as good governance. The project is funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway with a grant of 17 million euros.
The project contributes to strengthening participatory democracies and Euro-Atlantic integration in the Western Balkans by strengthening civil society organizations (CSOs) and CSO networks for a stronger and more active role in creating peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia.
Aida Daguda, director of the Center for the Promotion of Civil Society (CPCD), said the project is supported by Norway with 34 million KM for six Western Balkan countries: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Albania and Kosovo. The project is led by local NGOs and will run for four years.
"Within the project, we will support a stronger and more active response of civil society organizations to the increasingly difficult situation in the region.
With all the political pressures, the crown, the security situation in the world and the region, it is very difficult to function ‘normally’. Therefore, we realized that civil society must contribute to better governance and better stability and security in the region," said Daguda.
The CPCD is the project leader, and the partners are from North Macedonia - Center for Research and Policy (CRPM) and Albania - Institute for Democracy and Mediation (IDM) with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway.
