SARAJEVO, April 28 (FENA) - The BiH Presidency Chairman Šefik Džaferović welcomed EU Commissioner Janez Lenarčič and thanked him for the visit and the interest of the EU and himself personally for BiH in the field of crisis management.
Chairman Džaferović informed Commissioner Lenarčič about the recent earthquake that hit Herzegovina and its human and material consequences.
Lenarčič expressed his condolences for the loss of young life and regret for the consequences of the earthquake on the facilities.
The EU Commissioner Lenarčić, who attended the ResponSEE exercise at Igman today, under the auspices of the European Commission, aimed at testing the readiness of Southeast European countries in the event of an earthquake, expressed satisfaction with what he saw, noting that BiH has the capacity to cooperates with other countries, and the fact that representatives of the entity of Republika Srpska, the Federation of BiH and the Brčko District participated in the exercise together.
He said that it should be possible for BiH to effectively provide assistance to other countries, which will show readiness for membership in the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.
Pointing out that BiH, along with Albania, is the only country in the Western Balkans that is not part of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, the interlocutors stressed the need to continue EU support to BiH in protection and rescue through expertise and procurement of equipment needed to implement EU standards towards full membership in the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.
