SARAJEVO, March 13 (FENA) - Monsignor Tomo Vukšić has been officially enthroned as the new Archbishop of Vrhbosna at a Mass in Sarajevo's Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

He succeeded Cardinal Vinko Puljić, who was retired in January by Pope Francis after 31 years as archbishop.

Archbishop Vukšić, in his sermon entitled "To be an evangelist to the poor, to proclaim liberation to captives", states that the center of the Christian life is joy because of God's love for people and all other creatures, the KTA said.

“In this world, unfortunately, there are many oppressed, and therefore not a small number of their oppressors. There are various forms of violence against man: terrible wars and other forms of similar violence, threats of weapons, spreading fear, human trafficking, denial of wages, denial of workers' rights, widespread corruption, various forms of nepotism and many other ways. In doing so, there are always persecutors and persecuted. All are persecuted in some way as captives to their persecutors, which is a disgrace, and their persecutors are always prisoners of their flaws, their own moral blindness, and their bad inclinations. So both of them, although in different ways, live in captivity and need help. That is, Jesus wants all those who are captives of their weaknesses to be free from their flaws and to stop committing violence against God's creatures, so that all the oppressed are released,” said Archbishop Vukšić.

According to the sermon of the new Archbishop of Vrhbosna, as we reflect on how to grow in love, how to witness to goodness and how to follow Jesus Christ in a variety of ministries and abilities, it is important that whoever contributes as much as he/she can, gives his/her maximum.

The former archbishop, Cardinal Vinko Puljić, handed over a crosier or crozier (also known as a paterissa, pastoral staff, or bishop's staff) to Vukšić as a sign of pastoral service.

He reminded of the war events that followed in Bosnia and Herzegovina, when many pastoral initiatives were stopped and devastation and persecution arose, such as those that continue today in Ukraine.
