SARAJEVO, January 24 (FENA) – Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Zvizdić attended the opening of the Conference "Quo Vadis, Academia?", organized by Homework HUB, the first university HUB in BiH, on the occasion of the International Education Day, and said that we need a unique and comprehensive education at the state level, which will be fully harmonized with European and world standards.
Zvizdić stated, among other things, that education must be in the focus of the global community, both regional and domestic, and due to the fact that we have never "had more educated people, and never less knowledge".
“Equality between education and knowledge cannot be established, because education and knowledge are not the same. I want to say that we are focused on merely memorizing facts and data, but not on critical thinking,” Zvizdić pointed out.
According to him, in order to successfully deal with all challenges, we need potent and capacious young people as future leaders and decision-makers.
“Education does not only mean temporary individual grades, diplomas and social status after the completion of the education cycle. Education is something much broader. Education, if of good quality, provides a bright and prosperous future for the whole society. If you look at the most successful nations in the world, you will see that these are the nations with the best education system. Students from those countries always achieve the best results in PISA tests,” said Zvizdić.
Unfortunately, he added, BiH still belongs to the middle developed countries and when it comes to the education and success of our students in such tests, it is not at a satisfactory level.
“However, I am sure that BiH has the potential for growth, development and progress. I am sure because although in the formal and legislative sense there are certain problems when it comes to the education system, that we in BiH have smart, talented children, pupils and students, who whenever they go abroad to study or work in Western countries, are always among the best. Also, when our students participate in international competitions, they usually achieve the best results,” said Zvizdić, adding that we have fantastic potential in young people.
According to the organizers, on the first day of the Conference, the panelists will be professors from various universities in BiH, as well as professors from Dublin and Istanbul, and representatives of secondary and primary schools, as well as other educational institutions will participate.
