SARAJEVO, January 20 (FENA) - Round table and opening of the exhibition "Wannsee Conference in Berlin (January 20, 1942) - Final Solution to the Jewish Question", Holocaust Remembrance Day was marked today in Sarajevo and was organized by the Institute for Research of Crimes against Humanity and International Law of the University of Sarajevo in cooperation with the Jewish Community in BiH and the UNESCO Office.

Rector of the University of Sarajevo Rifat Škrijelj said that today's event is a university and academic contribution to the commemoration of the Holocaust, as well as a reminder of the dark times.

He said that they are always ready to sympathize and be with the victims of the past so that it would not happen again in the future.

As part of marking of Remembrance Day, the Rectorate of the University of Sarajevo opened the exhibition "Final Solution to the Jewish Question" by Eli Tauber, who said that a similar exhibition would be opened at the Museum of Jews on January 26 in Sarajevo.

“Both exhibitions have the same goal, to show that the Holocaust did not happen only in the concentration camps Jasenovc, Auschwitz and the like, but that gradually, by passing laws and depriving human rights, at some point it became normal to take a Jew to a concentration camp,” he said.

He claims that there are many examples in Sarajevo where citizens tried to save their neighbors.

“It is a wonderful when from a negative context we can talk about accepting and risking our own life for someone else,” Tauber pointed out.

Speaking about the conference, he believes that it is important not only to mention the Holocaust, so that it would not happen, but to influence young people through the media to become aware of the horrors of genocide and the Holocaust.

Rasim Muratović, director of the Institute for Research on Crimes against Humanity and International Law at the University of Sarajevo, believes that "Final Solution to the Jewish Question” was the end of hope for all European Jews.

In a resolution adopted in November 2005, the United Nations General Assembly decided to declare January 27 as International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
