SARAJEVO, January 13 (FENA) - Respecting the initiative of the Prime Minister of the Federation of BiH Fadil Novalić, the public enterprise Elektroprivreda BiH (EP BiH) has expressed interest and readiness to buy shares of the Trebišnjica Hydro Power Plants Trebišnjica from the mixed holding 'Elektroprivreda Republike Srpske' (the entity of RS power company), which owns 65 percent of the enterprise.

The EP BiH's intent to buy shares of Trebišnjica HPPs company is based on the necessity of preserving energy independence and stability of the BiH power supply system, which would be seriously endangered by enabling the "alienation" of significant production potentials.

"The consequence of such a scenario would be the inevitable economic collapse of BiH," they said.

The readiness of Elektroprivreda BiH for the purchase of shares of Trebišnjica HPPs is in line with the company's strategic commitment to increase the share of renewable sources for electricity production in the production portfolio and fulfill the obligations assumed by the BiH state as a signatory to the Energy Community Treaty.

In addition to the planned construction of new plants, the public enterprise Elektroprivreda BiH, in order to increase capacities from renewable sources, has publicly announced its interest in the purchase of projects in development or completed production facilities, by inviting interested parties.

They reminded that Trebišnjica HPPs with plants Trebinje 1 and 2, Čapljina and part of HPP Dubrovnik (Croatia) since the commissioning (successively in the period 1965-1981) until 1992, operated as part of the public enterprise Elektroprivreda BiH, which financed their construction.

Since 1992, the EP BiH explains, Trebinje hydropower plants 1 and 2 with a total installed capacity of 176 MW and an average annual production of 384 to 434 GWh of electricity have been a part of the mixed holding of 'Elektroprivreda RS'.

"The HPP Dubrovnik, which supplies its water from the Trebišnjica river basin, on the territory of Croatia and its production, which annually exceeds 1160 GWh, is distributed between Hrvatska Elektroprivreda (HEP - Croatian Power Company) and the holding 'Elektroprivreda RS', which according to the agreed distribution ratio, takes on more than 75 percent of electricity produced. Since 1992, HPP Čapljina has been part of 'Elektroprivreda HZHB," stated the EPBiH.
