MOSTAR, December 17 (FENA) - There has been no significant drop in the number of registered migrants in BiH this year compared to last year, but the number of asylum seekers has dropped significantly.

From January to December this year, a total of 15,468 migrants were registered, and most of them were citizens of Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Iran and other countries.

Last year, the number of registered migrants was 16,190, which indicates that this year there was no significant drop compared to last year, FENA learns from the Service for Foreigners' Affairs of BiH.

In our country, there are about 2,400 migrants in temporary reception centers and about 578 outside the centers.

According to data on the number of migrants who have sought asylum in BiH in the last four years, it can be seen that this number is drastically decreasing.

The Ministry of Security of BiH confirmed that in 2018, asylum applications were received for 1,572 persons (961 applications), coming from Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq and other countries, and in 2019, for 785 persons (333 applications), coming from Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Turkey, Pakistan and other countries.

In 2020, asylum applications were filed for 245 persons (138 applications), while in 2021, asylum applications were filed for 153 persons (111 applications), coming from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Turkey, Iran, Morocco, Iraq.

The data, therefore, shows that the number of asylum applications this year has been almost nine times lower than in 2018.
