10,000 citizens sign the petition for new technologies in election process

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, December 16 (FENA) - The Coalition for Free and Fair Elections "Under the Magnifying Glass" (Koalicija ‘Pod lupom’) yesterday launched a campaign to introduce new technologies in the electoral process in BiH in more than 70 BiH cities and municipalities. The petition to prevent election theft and fraud by introducing electronic voter identification and ballot-scanning machines, was signed by 10,000 citizens in 24 hours.

The signing of the petition will last until December 22.

As the organizers explained, more than 60 civil society organizations from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina will take to the streets in more than 70 cities and municipalities to get the support of citizens for the introduction of new technologies in the election process.

The statement said ballot scanning machines would prevent electoral fraud, which is reflected in changes in voting results by canceling votes for political opponents, voting instead of non-voters or corresponding personal votes.

Electronic voter identification would prevent misuses related to the identity of voters who go to the polls, such as voting on behalf of another person, voting several time in a row and misuse of voting after polls close, and it would be possible to monitor voter turnout in real time and have election results immediately after polls close, the statement said.
