GORAŽDE, November 10 (FENA) - The Head of the OSCE Mission to BiH Kathleen Kavalec and the Ambassador of Sweden to BiH Johanna Strömquist visited the Podrinje Canton and the City of Goražde today.

The main topics of conversation with the Prime Minister of the Podrinje Canton Goražde, Aida Obuća, Ministers of Justice and Education Nataša Danojlić and Biljana Begović, were activities in the fight against corruption, in connection with which the OSCE mission noted significant progress in this canton.

On this occasion, Ambassador Kavalec and Minister of Education, Youth, Science, Culture and Sports Biljana Begović also signed a memorandum of understanding on "Standards and a model of professional development of school management".

Kavalec emphasized that the OSCE mission has extremely good cooperation with the Podrinje Canton and the City of Goražde, paying tribute to the Prime Minister for the work done so far in the fight against corruption in this canton.

"We have signed a memorandum of understanding related to the professional development of school management and this memorandum provides for the establishment of a large working group consisting of representatives of the ministry, the cantonal education institute and the OSCE to discuss opportunities for professional development of teachers and school management and models to put it into practice. Here we have noticed significant steps forward that have been made in this canton and we really welcome such initiatives, which is why we are pleased to be here today," said Ambassador Kavalec.

She also stressed the importance of the visit of the Ambassador of Sweden, the country that is chairing the OSCE this year.

Swedish Ambassador to BiH Johanna Strömquist pointed out that one of the central topics of conversation was the fight against corruption, which, as she said, is a very important issue.

"Corruption is a phenomenon that violates the trust of citizens in the institutions of the system and corruption is a threat to democracy, the rule of law and economic development, which is why we talked today about ways to fight corruption. This is really an important topic not only for this canton but for the whole country. Sweden will continue to provide its support to all those in this country who want to help the country move forward and finally integrate into the European Union," said Ambassador Strömquist.

The Prime Minister of the canton Aida Obuća, assessed that the support of the OSCE Mission, Ambassador Kavalec and the Swedish Ambassador Strömquist, represents an encouragement for even more intensive work on the implementation of measures in the fight against corruption in this canton.

Accompanied by the hosts, the ambassadors also planted tree seedlings.
