About 1,560 migrant children have gone through educational process in USC

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, October 24 (FENA) - A delegation of the Ministry of Education of the Sarajevo Canton, led by Minister Naida Hota-Muminović, paid a working visit to the Una-Sana Canton yesterday.

At the meeting with the Prime Minister of the USC Mustafa Ružnić and the Minister of Education Almin Hopovac, which was also attended by representatives of Save the Children and UNICEF, they discussed the positive practices that this canton has in the field of inclusion of migrant children in the educational process, and the cooperation of cantonal ministries in that process.

As it was pointed out, about 1,560 migrant children have passed through the educational process in USC schools so far, and about 200 of them are currently attending classes. One high school student in the Electrical Engineering and Wood-Processing School is also included in the curriculum, the only high school in BiH where a child from a migrant family is enrolled. It is about a 15-year-old whose Iranian family is in the process of obtaining asylum in our country. Thanks to the additional preparation of teachers and the help of friends from school, he manages to follow the lessons, with a combination of Bosnian and English.

The results in the education of children were assessed as good, and the wish is, according to Minister Hota-Muminović, that everything that has been done in USC be realized in the Sarajevo Canton as well.

The Ministry of Education of the Sarajevo Canton organized the preparatory classes, and two schools and 63 migrant children were involved in the process.

One of the basic rights of every child is the right to education, and this is emphasized in the organizations Save the Children and UNICEF, which support these activities of ministries and schools.

“What is our next step is to try to include children in high school education. That is the goal of all of us, for the children who are here to gain knowledge,” said the representative of Save the Children, Maja Andrić.
