SARAJEVO, October 19 (FENA) - A prestigious recognition in the field of culture, the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Order of the Arts and the Letters), will be presented this evening to Bosnian painter Edin Numankadić by the Ambassador of France to Bosnia and Herzegovina Christine Toudic at a ceremony at the French residence.

Edin Numankadić, speaking about the award, said for FENA that he was very happy with the recognition from the French Republic.

"It is a recognition for 50 years of work in culture, art, for presence in art in this area. I am really looking forward to the recognition, especially because it comes from Paris, where a lot of us have gained knowledge and experience in contemporary art. It was unforgettable when I went to Paris for the first time as a young man in 1971, to see that great culture, civilization. Even today, I follow the events in Paris and that makes me a richer man," said Numankadić, adding that he was grateful to the French Government and the Embassy for the recognition.

The Order of the Arts and the Letters medal is a decoration of the Republic of France introduced on May 2, 1957, in order to give recognition to significant contributions in the field of arts and literature. Its origin is linked to the Order of St. Michael, established by King Louis XI of France on August 1, 1469, as the French dynastic order of knighthood.
