SARAJEVO, June 29 (FENA) - Minister for Human Rights and Refugees of BiH Miloš Lučić talked today in Sarajevo with Minister for Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue of Serbia Gordana Čomić about the position of Roma people and gender-based violence against women.

After the meeting, Minister Čomić told reporters that two issues were of special interest to them and those are the issues that we share regardless of the country where we live.

According to her, one is the rights and strategies of the Roma national minority, and the other is gender-based violence against women in the family.

“Our efforts will be focused on understanding that it does not matter where in the Western Balkans Roma people live, we can do many different projects regionally and together, facilitating each other both the emergence of ideas and costs from the budget, in order to improve the situation Roma in both BiH and Serbia,” said Minister Čomić.

She added that the second issue is gender-based violence against women, emphasizing that every state is equally obliged to protect the victim of violence and to have prevention programs that will prevent the occurrence of violence, normalization of violence and social acceptance of violence.

BiH Minister of Human Rights and Refugees Miloš Lučić said that they discussed the position of Roma as the largest national minority in BiH, and throughout the region.

According to him, the common position is that they have to work on improving housing conditions for Roma, their education, health care and social assistance.

He noted that the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of BiH in recent years, together with all levels of government, and donor funds, has allocated more than 51 million KM for housing for Roma.

The interlocutors also discussed gender centers and safe houses.

Minister Lučić mentioned that there are 17 safe houses in BiH, and that the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees finances eight safe houses through its budget, as well as some projects that the Ministry has worked with the UNHCR.
