SARAJEVO, May 7 (FENA) - Advisor for Statistics and Planning in the Office of the Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Nadir Jahić said that the FBiH Government considered number of employees as one of the most important indicators of its success in this term.
“From the beginning of the mandate of the FBiH Government until the beginning of the crisis caused by coronavirus pandemic, the number of employed persons increased by more than 57,000 or 12 percent and reached more than 534,000,” Jahić told FENA.
The very beginning of coronavirus pandemic, claims Jahić, was a heavy blow for the economy of the Federation of BiH.
“Market closures, supply chain disruptions and restrictive measures have had a severe effect on the number of employees worldwide, including in the Federation of BiH. The economy in the first quarter since the beginning of the pandemic has fallen slightly less than 10 percent, and the number of employees decreased by 26,500 or 5 percent in just 50 days,” said Jahić.
However, he points out that the measures for economic recovery taken by the Government of the Federation of BiH, but also the cantonal governments and local self-government units, each within its competencies, prevented a significant blow to the economy and that the downward trend and recovery began very quickly.
“Today, almost a year from that moment, the number of employees has increased by more than 14,500, which is 55 percent compared to the original loss,” Jahić explained.
He said that the biggest recovery when it comes to number of jobs is in the Tuzla Canton, where 83 percent of lost jobs were restored, and that Bosnia-Podrinje Canton had even better results where 86 percent of lost jobs were restored, but that the initial loss was much smaller.
However, in relation to them, concluded Jahić, Zenica-Doboj and Central Bosnia Cantons have just exceeded 40 percent, while the number of employees in the Posavina Canton continued to fall.
