Izetbegović: We'll withdraw the ventilators if Forto and Vranić sign the order

SARAJEVO, April 5 (FENA) - General Manager of the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo (KCUS) prof. dr. Sebija Izetbegović said today that KCUS "is not a state and that they are open to all competent persons who want to exercise control."

"We respect the rules and the law. Our job is to treat patients and that is what we do," said Izetbegović.

Dr. Izetbegović said that the publication of the letters on certain web portals was deliberately politicized and she announced that she would sue everyone who published it since it disturbed the public.

She emphasized that at KCUS, all clinics work 24 hours a day to help patients and to provide all services of secondary and tertiary treatment.

Dr. Izetbegović said that they have been treating patients with coronavirus for more than a year and that the General Hospital "Prim. Dr. Abdullah Nakaš" opened the Covid ward in the second half of November last year, but continued to refer the most difficult patients to KCUS.

Dr. Izetbegović held a meeting with the Prime Minister of the Sarajevo Canton, Edin Forto, and the Minister of Health, Haris Vranić, and called the meeting 'miraculous'. She added that she decided to go to the meeting because she is a legalist, but that it was better for Minister Vranić to accept their invitation and come to KCUS.

"It is a shame that the meetings with Vranić are not recorded, because it is difficult to retell them. We started talking about the letters that spread in the media. The first letter is the subject of a police investigation and we will sue anyone who published them. It is stated in the media that the anonymous letter was sent to me, and that was not true because they addressed the citizens. The letter is anonymous, if it is anonymous, then it is not relevant," said Izetbegović.

She pointed out that they also discussed the second letter, but that it was an internal communication document written by colleagues outlining the problems they were facing. She added that a group has been formed to solve each of the problems and that some have already been resolved.

She reminded that Minister Vranić was an employee of KCUS and that he had not had any operations in a period of 12 months.

"Vranić said that we do not let anyone enter KCUS, but I tried to explain to them that some people do not want to communicate with the public, but only to do their job," she pointed out.

She also stressed that she asked if it was possible for news crews to visit the Respiratory Center, but that she received a negative response.

"Dr. Bajramović said that she would take off her uniform and go home if journalists enter the Podhrastovi Clinic," she said.

She also stressed the importance of protecting patients ’personal data, as families might sue KCUS.

Dr. Izetbegović said that it was not a problem at all to withdraw from the usage all the ventilators purchased through "Srebrna malina" procurement, but only if Forto and Vranić sign the order.

"As long as we have Verlab verification certificates, we will not withdraw them, because we do not want to answer to families due to some speculations. Ventilators are used depending on the clinical state of the patient. Not a single ventilator can kill a person if you know how to use it unless it catches fire," she said.

She said that she was a witness in the court process for the purchase of these ventilators and that she would continue to work at KCUS for as long as she could.
