Kavazović: I would like Ramadan to make us all better people

SARAJEVO, April 5 (FENA) - It is quite obvious that we are facing a major crisis caused by coronavirus pandemic, which in many segments has limited the functioning of hitherto common forms of social and religious life. This is a completely new situation, which is unprecedented so far and which changes the consciousness and behavior of people. The Islamic Community tried to ensure the development of religious life through various instructions and recommendations, taking into account the health of people, said Raisu-l-ulama of the Islamic Community in BiH Husein ef. Kavazović in an interview with FENA.

Speaking about the organization and way of the Islamic Community's fight against coronavirus, Rais Kavazović reminded that at first they had to close mosques out of caution, because we did not know much about the virus and because such were the recommendations of experts and practices in the rest of the world.

Asked about the suspicion of a number of Muslims about the content of coronavirus vaccines, Rais said that the Islamic Community believes that people should be vaccinated and that "propaganda about whether the vaccine is halal or not is unnecessary and even malicious”.

“Everything that will contribute to protecting human health when it is endangered must be used. Those who question this are irresponsible people. They are not worth spending time on. The Islamic Community had a clear position on that from the beginning,” emphasizes Effendi Kavazović.

Asked when the issue of restitution of waqf property will be resolved and when the Islamic Community agreement with the state will be signed, Rais Kavazović answered that these are issues for the state and that the Islamic Community did its part with the Council of Ministers, almost a decade ago.

“The Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina is blocking the signing of the agreement approved by the Council of Ministers. The same is the case with the property of religious communities. For more than a decade, the bill on restitution has been in the drawers of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina. All religious communities are ready to approach it immediately,” says Rais.

When it comes to the position of Bosniaks and Muslims in the Republika Srpska entity and what the IC in BiH is doing to improve their status, the Raisu-l-ulama says that the issue of protecting the rights of Bosniaks should be sent to other addresses, and when it comes to religious, the Islamic Community has managed to ensure that the congregations function throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina.

When asked what his Ramadan message and lesson is through the call for unity, Rais Kavazović said that he does not intend to call anyone to unity, because “the more we call for unity the less there is unity”.

“I call for decency and civility in communication. I think we miss that much more than that parochial unity. I would like us to look at phenomena in society with deeper analyses and not superficially, as we often do. I would like Ramadan to make us all better people, from politicians, intellectuals, ulamas and you journalists. Ramadan should bring us closer to each other, that is its essence and message,” said Husein ef. Kavazović in a pre-Ramadan interview with FENA.
