SARAJEVO, March 29 (FENA) - Raisu-l-ulama of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina Husein effendi Kavazović today issued an appeal to officials, intellectuals and the ulama to refrain from inappropriate and offensive rhetoric, as well as hate speech.
"The position of the rais-l-ulama of the Islamic Community in BiH, that I hold, imposes a moral obligation on me to call on all politicians in our country, intellectuals and the ulama, as well as other actors in social life, especially those who consider themselves Muslims, to refrain from inappropriate and offensive rhetoric as well as hate speech, which results in the polarization of society and the sowing of mistrust among the people," says Rais Kavazović.
Kavazović warned that the political struggle for a better Bosnia and Herzegovina is not conducted with harsh and hateful rhetoric, especially slander, violations of privacy, forgery and machinations.
"With this way of public communication, political actors are pushing this society into chaos, and undermining already weak political institutions, inflicting inconceivable damage to the interests of the state and citizens, whom they constantly invoke. Hatred and hostility will not contribute to the consolidation and progress of our homeland," he said.
Rais Kavazović reminded that the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina expect those who represent them to adhere to the principles of elementary decency in public communication if their actions and deeds cannot justify the trust given by the voters.
