SARAJEVO, January 15 (FENA) - The FBiH Assistant Health Minister Goran Čerkez said today at a press conference that the situation regarding the coronavirus pandemic in the territory of FBiH is under control and that the restrictive measures will remain in force for the next 14 days.

He pointed out that a year has passed since the appearance of the coronavirus in BiH, and that the first case was confirmed in March 2020, when the state of a natural disaster was declared.

"In difficult times, when many countries went into a lockdown, BiH managed to cope without closing its borders for the entire period and that is how we live today as well. The reason for the success is the knowledge and commitment of the staff from the public health sector and medical professionals, as well as the strong support of the FBiH Government. We are grateful to our population for that, but I must also say that the culture of hygiene in BiH has always been at a high level, which has been very important," Čerkez pointed out.

Speaking about the ski season, Čerkez said that it represents a risk, but that they also keep that segment under control.

"There has been a kind of hysteria about the vaccine, but the World Health Organization said that about 95 percent of vaccines in the world went to five countries, and BiH is a small country," said Čerkez.

In the end, he concluded that the FBiH Government is doing everything according to the law, and that the Federation of BiH is ready to administer the vaccines and procure new ones.

Yesterday, the Government of the Federation of BiH accepted the Vaccination Plan against COVID-19 in the Federation of BiH and instructed the Ministry of Health and the Institute of Public Health of the FBiH to implement it, each within its competences.

The plan is being implemented in cooperation with the competent authorities in the cantons, as well as health care institutions in the territory of the Federation of BiH.

The Federation of BiH has pre-ordered additional 800,000 doses of vaccine through a joint procurement by the European Commission, as well as other materials and protective equipment. It is planned that this procurement will be financed from the funds of the IPA II accession instrument of the European Union, which will be activated soon.
