BIHAĆ, December 28 (FENA) - The Red Cross of the City of Bihać and the Una-Sana Canton (USC) today provided hot meals and launch packages for about 600 migrants and refugees, who still remained at the "Lipa" camp site.
The distribution of meals and necessities these days has also been provided by the humanitarian organization "SOS" Bihać.
"Today, we distributed hot meals and canned food, bread, drinking water and clothing items like hats, scarves and gloves. We are trying to help these people, literally just to survive. We really hope that a solution will be found very soon, and until then we will use our reserves and the help of donors," said Selam Midžić from the Red Cross of the City of Bihać.
The number of people in the camp itself has decreased in recent days, as smaller groups of migrants and refugees in search of somewhat better living conditions, most often at their own initiative, headed to Bihać or Sarajevo.
"The meals we get are insufficient, but we survive only thanks to them. We have almost nothing, we are freezing, we are hungry and thirsty. Some have gone alone in search of something better, we who have stayed are either not capable of it, or are still hoping for a solution to the problem. In recent years, I have become accustomed to a hard life, but these are the most difficult moments for me," said twenty-five-year-old Ilijas from Pakistan.
Several hundred people in the Lipa camp survive thanks to improvisation and resourcefulness, that is, the formation of tent dwellings in and around the camp. A few found at least some protection from the cold and rain in containers left by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) employees or in tents unaffected by the recent fire.
The security situation at this location is still controlled by a large number of police officers from the USC Ministry of the Interior, who, given the circumstances, do not have a large number of interventions.
