SARAJEVO, December 15 (FENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Bisera Turković talked today in Sarajevo with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov, who is on an official visit to BiH. The meeting came after BiH Presidency members Željko Komšić and Šefik Džaferović refused to do so due to what they said was disrespect for the decisions of the BiH state and its institutions.

A tête-à-tête meeting of Turković and Lavrov was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH, as well as a meeting of delegations of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Russian Federation, followed by a signing ceremony of the Consultation Plan between the two ministries for 2021/2022.

After the meeting and the signing ceremony of that plan, Minister Turković expressed her satisfaction with the constructive and open conversation at the meeting of the delegations of the two countries, at which they stated that the relations between the two countries are good. She emphasized that it is important to work on improving cooperation in various segments, especially in the field of economy. She expressed hope that after the signing of the Plan, there will be an improvement in cooperation in the coming period.

She reminded that Lavrov's visit was organized at the moment when the 25th anniversary of the Dayton Peace Agreement is being marked, and welcomed the fact that Russia respects its sovereignty and territorial integrity, which is determined by the General Framework Agreement.

She expects strong support from Russia on the way to achieving the goals that BiH has before it, and assessed that there is a need for mutual respect, that the Dayton Peace Agreement, in which the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights is woven, be respected and that all citizens should have equal rights.

“We must find compromise solutions because if we cannot agree on the Commission for Integration with NATO because we have different positions then we can agree on a Commission that will coordinate with NATO,” said Turković, recalling the different views on the remaining High Representative in BiH.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov, said that this visit was a good opportunity to discuss the existing problems and try to overcome them.

He reiterated his support for the Dayton Peace Agreement and the sovereignty of BiH, reminding that Russia is the guarantor of that agreement, noting that he conveyed such views of Russia in a conversation with BiH Presidency Chairman Milorad Dodik.

However, he once again stated that the role of the OHR has been overcome and that the peoples of BiH are capable of deciding their own destiny, which is why he thinks that this international institution should be closed and that this should come to an end.

Lavrov said that it was agreed to improve the level of trade exchange between Russia and BiH, which was slowed down due to the coronavirus pandemic.
