Milićević: Protect public spending and public investment

SARAJEVO, November 19 (FENA) - Deputy Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Minister of Finance Jelka Milićević, after today's meeting of FBiH and cantonal officials dedicated to pandemic measures, said that all levels of government in FBiH are currently in the stage of drafting the budget, aware that the problems are identical and that a decline in revenue was registered this year, which is also expected in the next.

In the first ten months of 2020, there was a total decline in all revenues in the Federation of 7.2 percent compared to 2019, which is nominally 461 million, said the Deputy Prime Minister, reminding that last year the FBiH recorded the highest revenue growth ever.

Due to the decrease in cantonal revenues from indirect taxes of about 195 million, 200 million were transferred from the FBiH budget to the cantons, and 30 million KM were compensated to the municipalities due to their revenue decrease of 32 million.

“Today we wanted to send a message - our policy will be the same in 2021; we have common problems, we have common responsibilities and shared competencies. We all have to define programs within our competencies,” Milićević concluded after today's meeting.

She pointed out that the growth of the gross domestic product can be exclusively the result of public investments, and that private investments are recovering very slowly and that the decline in private consumption is understandable in the current situation.

“At the moment, we need to protect public spending and public investments, that is, we must find sources of financing and initiate those public investments, and we have all the preconditions for that,” said Milićević.
