SARAJEVO, October 20 (FENA) - Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH Staša Košarac talked today with Turkish Ambassador to BiH Haldun Koç about the continuation of beef exports from BiH to Turkey.
At a meeting held at the Turkish Embassy, Košarac pointed out the need to protect domestic production and primary producers, among other things, by solving the problem of market surpluses caused by the emergence and spread of Covid-19.
“In this regard, I asked the Turkish side to approve BiH to fulfill the quota of an additional 600 tons of beef by the end of the year, so that we can finally realize the open quota of 3,000 tons. This would significantly reduce the existing market surpluses and facilitate the business of our primary producers,” said Košarac.
He added that in the coming period he will hold meetings with Ambassador Koç and the competent institutions in Turkey, in order to define the issue of quotas for meat exports in 2021, insisting that the approved quota be increased by at least 2,000 tons, which would increase the open quota from 3,000 tons to 5,000 of meat next year.
Košarac and Koç also exchanged views on the Committee for Cooperation in the Field of Agriculture between BiH and Turkey, which will be held in early November 2020. Košarac announced that he would define a strategic approach with the competent ministers from the Republika Srpska and the Federation of BiH when it comes to agriculture so that BiH would have a unified position on the upcoming bilateral committee, the BiH Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations announced.
