Košarac: Unblock appointment procedure of an expert team for Trgovska gora

SARAJEVO, August 27 (FENA) - Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina Staša Košarac reiterated today his determination to unblock the appointment procedure of an expert team for Trgovska Gora, and prevent Croatia's intentions to build a radioactive and nuclear waste landfill at the site of Trgovska gora.

After the video conference of the representatives of the civil sector and competent institutions on the implications of the disposal of radioactive waste and used nuclear fuel on Trgovska Gora, Košarac pointed out that primary goals in this regard are the protection of health and environment.

In response to that question, he reiterated that the move of Deputy Chairperson of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH, Bisera Turković, is unacceptable and politically incorrect, for not allowing the decision on the formation of an expert team for monitoring activities related to the mentioned issue to be on the agenda of the BiH Council of Ministers' session.

At the same time, he expressed concern that if BiH continues with this dynamic and enables Croatia to carry out activities in the mentioned field, our country will be in a situation where it will not be able to react in time, because BiH will be given the opportunity to react within a month under the ESPOO Convention (Convention on Environmental Impact Assessment)", emphasizing that this is a too short period to respond to the new situation.

Košarac emphasized that the obligation of the competent institutions is to work in the interest of citizens in BiH and protection of the environment.

He announced that a session of the Coordination Body for Radioactive Waste and Used Nuclear Fuel Disposal at Trgovska Gora site would be held next week and that the decision to establish that body would be analyzed, i.e. that the BiH Presidency would be informed about the blockade and non-compliance with Trgovska gora issue.

“No one has the right not to respect the positions of the Presidency of BiH and other institutions,” said Košarac, reminding that the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, entity and parliaments of local units have made decisions when it comes to Trgovska gora issue.
