SARAJEVO, June 30 (FENA) - At today's session, the Central Election Commission of BiH (BiH CEC) elected Željko Bakalar as the new president of the BiH CEC with six votes in favor and one invalid ballot.
The new BiH CEC president was elected among the members of the Central Election Commission from the ranks of the Croat people.
The current president of the BiH CEC, Vanja Bjelica-Prutina, said at the beginning of the session that in accordance with Article 2.6 of the BiH Election Law, the president of the BiH Central Election Commission is elected from among the members of the BiH CEC.
She mentioned that one member of the Central Election Commission of BiH from the ranks of Croats, Bosniaks, Serbs, and a member from the ranks of others perform the function of the President of the Central Election Commission of BiH on a rotating basis once in seven years, for 21 months.
She added that, considering that her mandate as the president of the CEC of BiH expires today, it was necessary to elect a new president of the CEC of BiH from the ranks of the Croat people, who will take over the term of office on July 1, 2020.
