ZAGREB, June 21 (FENA) - Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia Gordan Grlić Radman congratulated Croat and Bosniak political representatives in BiH on the agreement on the legal framework that will enable local elections to be held in Mostar and described it as a "historic step forward".
Leaders of BiH's leading Croat and Bosniak parties, Dragan Čović and Bakir Izetbegović, signed agreements on Wednesday that will enable local elections to be held in Mostar and changes to the election law of the House of Peoples and the BiH Presidency.
"I extend my sincere congratulations on the two major agreements reached between the political representatives of Croats and Bosniaks in BiH, which bring them even closer to the European family. We are witnessing a historic step forward that removed all obstacles for holding elections in the City of Mostar, as well as additional protection of European values through legitimate elections and legitimate representation of constituent peoples," said Grlić, announced the Croatian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs.
The changes should be implemented in accordance with the rulings of the BiH Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights, which challenged parts of the election legislation, Hina reported.
These agreements were signed in the presence of the international community and refer to the Election Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina, particularly the holding of elections in Mostar, as well as the Statute of the City.
