SARAJEVO, May 26 (FENA) – Federation of BiH Minister of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry Šemsudin Dedić told FENA that the Ministry has completed a public call for spring sowing, which was realized in cooperation with cantonal ministries and municipalities.
“Based on the preliminary list of beneficiaries submitted by 70 municipalities, incentives of 8.8 million KM will cover 18.400 agricultural producers,” said Dedić.
He added that these are farmers, most of whom were in the registers of agricultural holdings, and that since March 2020, 1.200 new farms and 227 agricultural trades have been registered.
Dedić stated that the volume of agricultural production will be increased and additional 27.000 hectares of land in the FBiH will be cultivated.
“In conditions when there was a danger of disruption in the regular food supply due to the coronavirus pandemic, the FBiH Government and the relevant ministry took additional activities to increase spring sowing and this measure partially achieved the goal of being less dependent on imported food,” said Dedić.
Dedić underlined that during the implementation of the spring sowing support program, they acted as a team with municipal mayors and cantonal ministers, regardless of party affiliation, and that he hopes that the program would be successful and cooperation would continue.
At the same time, the Ministry is preparing an autumn sowing program that will be significantly more efficient and better.
He explained that agriculture is an open-air factory and that farmers often face disasters such as floods, frost or droughts, but that the mentioned program has put larger areas of agricultural land into operation.
