SARAJEVO, May 20 (FENA) - Deputies of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina today appointed Željko Bakalar as a new member of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of BiH in the second round of voting after the Collegium did not reach an agreement.

Namely, at the end of the three-day long session, the deputies adopted the Proposal of the Decision on the election and assumption of office and termination of office of the CEC member proposed by the MP of the Democratic Front (DF) Dženan Đonlagić.

In a statement for FENA, Đonlagić explained that the mandate of the current member of the CEC of BiH, Stjepan Mikić, had expired long time ago and that he had fulfilled conditions for retirement.

Considering that he intended to request a severance pay from the BiH budget in the amount of around 40,000 KM, the Democratic Front Caucus further explained its proposal that this is now another in a series of justified reasons for dismissing a member of the BiH CEC today.

“Someone whose mandate expired a long time ago and who fulfilled the conditions for retirement should not be allowed to take tens of thousands of KM of budget money at a time when all levels of government are revising the budget in order to direct as much money as possible to repair health and economic consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic,” explained Đonlagić.
