BIJELJINA, April 28 (FENA) - The Indirect Taxation Authority in Bosnia and Herzegovina (ITA BiH) believes that there is no basis for dissatisfaction of freight carriers due to the relocation of a customs office at the Rača border crossing near Bijeljina to a new location.

Head of the ITA Department for Communications and International Cooperation Ratko Kovačević announced the relocation of the Bijeljina Customs Office for the coming days. He explains that it is necessary to complete some work, especially when it comes to connecting systems and IT support at a new location.

“The competent authorities of ITA BiH will also meet the freight carriers in such a way that trucks entering the Rača border crossing and going to the new location of the Customs office in Bijeljina will be sent in the simplified procedure, which they requested,” Kovačević told FENA.

The carriers in Bijeljina briefly suspended their work today and expressed their dissatisfaction due to the relocation of the customs office at the Rača border crossing to a new location.

They requested in a letter earlier to suspend the relocation of the customs office during the state of emergency in RS due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Freight carriers believe that there is absolutely no economic justification for the relocation of the Bijeljina Customs Office, and they have previously stated that considerable material resources of BiH citizens have been earmarked for the construction of a customs terminal at the Rača border crossing, and now they will pay rent to a private legal entity for the new premises of the customs terminal. Earlier, attempts were made to relocate the customs terminal at Rača, but this was stopped due to protests by shippers and freight carriers.
