ZENICA, April 14 (FENA) - Zenica miners have suspended work at both mine facilities due to the decision of the Management Board of the Zenica Brown Coal Mines (RMUZ) to reduce their salaries by about 200 KM for March, confirmed RMUZ Trade Union President Nijaz Vardo for FENA.
Miners from the Stara jama pit were the first ones to suspend the work, and afterwards miners from the Raspotočje pit did the same.
“The management complied with the decision to increase the hourly rate to KM 2.70, but took the allowances we were entitled to under the Wage Regulations, which has been in effect for the past 10 years.
The union was neither informed nor given its consent to such a decision, so the reaction of the miners was expected and logical. Reducing someone's salary by 200 KM at a time like this, especially when the production is 49.000 tons per month, is neither normal nor right,” Vardo said.
He reminds that they have had meetings trying to agree on a new Wage Regulations, but that no agreement has been reached, therefore miners believe that the act has hitherto been valid.
