BANJA LUKA, March 3 (FENA) - Religious communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina expect a law on restitution on property to be adopted, especially since it is either destroyed or rewritten, Archbishop of Vrhbosna, Cardinal Vinko Puljić said yesterday.
“Of the total confiscated property, religious communities and churches account for only seven percent. That is why panic is unnecessary. We are not looking for ourselves, but the law should be passed for everyone,” Puljić told reporters in Banja Luka.
He considers that relevant authorities are not working on this issue, although the Inter-Religious Council has sent a clear message regarding the return and protection of these assets.
He emphasized that there is no democracy if private property is denied.
“That's dictatorship then. Especially when it was confiscated at the time of injustice, then the injustice must be corrected, by returning the property to the people,” he said.
It is the view of the Inter-Religious Council that property should be returned and, if that is not possible, an adequate replacement or assessment and payment in installments should be made.
