TUZLA, February 11 (FENA) - Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in BiH organized a meeting on the problems of persons with disabilities in the Tuzla Canton. The participants discussed the establishment of cooperation between interested and authorized institutions in order to help finding solutions to problems that persons with disabilities are facing.
In this way, the OSCE seeks to assist persons with disabilities in exercise of their rights, in order to easily overcome everyday problems.
“We will try to find and solve some of the burning issues, which is the question of assessing the abilities of children and young people. Of course, one of the biggest issues is the right to a family pension, and what most worries people with disabilities is the right to health care and their access to health care. Each meeting is aimed at improving the situation,” Samir Arnaut, Human Rights Officer at the OSCE Office in Tuzla pointed out.
The biggest problem for the people who became disabled before the age of 18 is the inability to claim the right to a family pension. Suvad Zahirović, Director of the Lotos Information Center for Persons with Disabilities, believes that legislation passed at the FBiH level seriously affects the existence of people with disabilities.
“It's a big setback compared to the previous law. This law is more restrictive for family pension beneficiaries and now the existence of these people is completely uncertain. It should be said that the state has not set up a safety mechanism for basic living expenses for people with disabilities,” said Zahirović.
