SARAJEVO, December 17 (FENA) - Deputy Chairman of the BiH Council of Ministers and Minister of Finance and Treasury Vjekoslav Bevanda and Head of Division of Energy and Transport for Southeast Europe and Turkey at the German Development Bank (KfW) Pablo Obrador signed two project contracts in Sarajevo today on energy efficiency in the Federation of BiH and Republika Srpska.

These agreements, Bevanda said, provided a total of EUR 19.5 million in grants to Bosnia and Herzegovina, i.e. its entities implementing energy efficiency projects. One agreement relates to financing of the Energy Efficiency Project in public buildings in Republika Srpska, for which kfW has allocated EUR 10 million, and another one is related to similar project in the Federation of BiH, for which EUR 9.5 million has been provided through kfW.

"The purpose of these projects is to ensure energy efficiency of public buildings at affordable costs, which aims to improve living conditions of all citizens. Through these projects energy efficiency measures will be taken in public facilities, primarily in schools and kindergartens. The goal of these projects is also to contribute to global climate protection as well as to sustainable economic development in BiH," Bevanda said.

Director of KfW said this is the first agreement within the energy efficiency program to be implemented in BiH, and expressed gratitude to the German government for supporting the project.

"We hope that these projects will represent beginning of new cooperation in the field of energy efficiency and it is very important to work on reducing costs not only when it comes to BiH, but also globally," said Obrador.

The Agreement was also signed by the FBiH Minister of Physical Planning Josip Martić, while the entity Minister from Republika Srpska will sign the agreement subsequently. Martić expressed satisfaction with signing of the Agreement and thanked the German government and kfW.

"I am also pleased that kfW, and the Government of the Federation of BiH, have recognized this ministry as the implementer," Martić said, and expressed confidence that the project would be successfully implemented.
