SARAJEVO, November 26 (FENA) - Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Fadil Novalić, today held a meeting with representatives of the Council of Employees of the Public Institution for Mentally Disabled Children and Youth Pazarić in Sarajevo, and expressed support for their work.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of four competent FBiH ministries - Labor and Social Policy, Health, Education and Science and Justice.

“We know what you are going through and that recent events have left special consequences on you who are doing a very difficult and responsible job. I personally know that you are like other parents to your protégés. I wanted to support you and try to find a common solution to problems at this institution. I believe that you are doing an exceptional job for which you need to get every kind of reward and support,” Prime Minister Novalić told the representatives of the employees of the Pazarić Institute, among whom were caretakers, social workers, nurses.

After presenting in concrete and specific problems they face, primarily the lack of staff, caretakers and then financial problems, representatives of the Pazarić Institute staff asked for help in solving them. It was agreed that a working group of the FBiH Government would be formed as soon as possible, including a representative of the Council of Employees of the Pazarić Institute, who would propose a series of measures in line with European and international standards. At the top of the list is an urgent increase in educated staff, above all caretakers Parallel to that, measures will be implemented for the professional education of the existing staff.

According to the latest data, a total of 339 beneficiaries of different ages and different conditions reside in the Pazarić Institute.

Two residents are between three and six years of age, five from seven to ten years, nine from 11 to 15 years, seven from 16 to 17 years, 20 beneficiaries from 18 to 21 years of age, and 234 of them are over 35 years of age.

Of the total number, 71 users have psychiatric diagnosis, seven of whom are minors. There are 41 beneficiaries with severe intellectual disabilities, 64 with heavier intellectual disabilities, 115 users with moderate intellectual disabilities and 48 with mild intellectual disabilities.

One caregiver often has to take care of a group of about thirty beneficiaries, but employees have said that it is sometimes more difficult to care for a significantly smaller group of beneficiaries if they are the ones with more severe conditions, the FBiH Government said.
