FBiH Development Strategy - Measures for stronger economic growth

SARAJEVO, November 18 (FENA) - The FBiH Development Strategy 2021-2027 is an extremely important document that enables the integration of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina into the strategy to be pursued for the entire BiH, as well as the global agenda for sustainable development goals by 2030, it was underlined today at a workshop organized by the FBiH Development Programming Institute.

The cross-sectoral consultations brought together key stakeholders in the infrastructure development of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and were dedicated to the measures to be taken in the next period relating to infrastructure and spatial development that include energy, environment and transport.

“This is about our approach on how to find our place in global trends so that people in BiH achieve a higher standard of living,” said the strategy consultant and university professor Anto Domazet in a statement to FENA.

The strategy, he added, focuses on four key areas, namely economy, social development, better public administration, and peace and security, in particular, he singled out the environment and infrastructure development.

When it comes to economic development, Domazet added the Federation of BiH faces numerous challenges, first of all how to use its potentials in human capital, then in natural resources, and how to link it with good public administration to reflect the effects of development raising the social standard of the population, improving the quality of public services, healthcare, education, pensions, etc.

“What is a particular challenge for the economic development of the Federation of BiH is its export-oriented growth orientation. The domestic market is small and the technologies that require a large market imply export growth and it implies exceptional growth of human capital, the use of information and communication technologies and especially growth based on green economy that will respect the principles of de-carbonization, renewability of energy sources and increase of energy efficiency,” noted Domazet.

Domazet also underlined that the export strategy is particularly important for the manufacturing sector, above all the metal and furniture, food, and labor intensive industries, which should increase its added value in the clothing, footwear and leather sectors.

“The service sector is particularly significant and promising, where we see leaders in ICT, in tourism and in exporting business services,” added Domazet.
