BRUSSELS, October 10 (FENA) - European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee (AFET), with 59 votes for and 8 votes against, approved the initiation of inter-institutional negotiations for the Financial Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA III), stated the PR Office of the European People's Party.
Negotiations will be conducted by Željana Zovko (HDU / EPP) and Tonino Picula (SDP / S&D), and new instruments will have to be approved at the plenary session and at the Council before they become EU law, once the negotiations are completed.
IPA III is an EU financial instrument supporting reforms in the candidate and potential candidate countries in adopting and implementing their political, economic and legal systems in order to prepare the beneficiaries for the obligations of the EU membership.
For the implementation of IPA III a budget of EUR 14.5 billion was proposed for the period 2021-2027, with an EP share of EUR 14.66 billion.
