SARAJEVO, July 21 (FENA) - After several news media outlets reported that the Croatian warplanes intercepted an Israeli aircraft entering the Croatian airspace from the direction of Bosnia and Herzegovina intending to cross over to Italy, the BiH Air Navigation Services Agency (BHANSA) confirmed to FENA yesterday that this flight was outside the zone of responsibility of the BiH Area Control Centre (BHACC).
“On July 19, 2019 at 06:26 UTC, or 08:26 local time, the Israeli aircraft of 4XCPX TAMAR AVIATION type GLF 4 entered the airspace of Bosnia and Herzegovina from the direction of Montenegro on a flight from Tel Aviv to Zurich. The said aircraft had a duly completed and accepted flight plan. The aircraft flew to a height of 40,000 feet, or just over 12,000 meters, meaning the neighboring district control flights of Belgrade and Zagreb were in charge of it since they are currently in charge of providing air traffic control services in BiH at altitudes above 32,500 feet, i.e. above 10,000 m. Therefore, the said flight was outside the area of responsibility of the BiH Area Control Centre (BHACC). The plane left the air space of BiH at 06:49 UTC or 08:49 local time,” BHANSA said.
BHANSA said that the aircraft lost radio connection with the competent county control of the Zagreb flight control center, which caused the aircraft to be intercepted by the Croatian Air Force in the airspace of the Republic of Croatia.
“This is standard procedure in such situations. Please note that during the interruption there was no disturbance of the airspace of Bosnia and Herzegovina by the military aircraft of the Republic of Croatia,” BHANSA pointed out.
Since 2014, BiH has been in the process of taking responsibility for providing air navigation services above its territory. At that time, he took control over the space of up to 10,000 meters above sea level, while the service and control of the airspace over Bosnia and Herzegovina above this altitude is continued to be provided by neighboring states and accordingly they collect all revenue.
According to BHANSA announcements, the full assumption of responsibility for the provision of air navigation services in the entire BiH airspace is scheduled for December 5 this year, thus making this extremely demanding and long-lasting process successful.
