JAHORINA, July 9 (FENA) - After all the representatives of the member countries of the Southeast European Cooperation Process (SEECP) addressed the participants today in Jahorina, during the second day of the Summit, the Declaration of Summit was adopted which states that the participants are deeply convinced that only the complete integration of the entire region into the European Union serves the best interests of Europe.
They expressed the need to maintain the incentives for enlargement and continued commitment to reforms, and to strengthen regional cooperation and ensure the development of good neighborly relations, working together with European institutions to accelerate positive changes in the region.
Also, the participants expressed the commitment to work together in order to effectively confront all the security threats in the region because the security of Southeast Europe is a basic precondition for the security and stability of the continent.
The document emphasizes the need for coordinated efforts in the fight against terrorism and extremism, organized crime with a focus on human trafficking, forced labor, smuggling of weapons and ammunition, money laundering and corruption.
“Strengthening economic cooperation among SEECP participants is very important, as well as between the economies of SEECP and the European Union, as this is of paramount importance for the economic growth, sustainable development and prosperity of the citizens of Southeast Europe,” it is stated in the Declaration.
Awareness was also expressed about the need to expand connectivity within the region, as well as the region and the EU, which implies business and digital connectivity, exchanges in the field of culture and youth connecting, as it will create the possibility of competitiveness in the global market.
The Declaration stresses the great potential of digitalization for the transformation of countries' economies and cross-border links, and therefore it is recommended to expand cooperation in this area as well.
“Participants understand the potential threat to the stability of economic progress and sustainable development caused by the exodus of a large number of educated and skilled young people into more prosperous economies. This phenomenon is not a temporary matter and it should be dealt with in joint efforts,” the Declaration stated.
The SEECP members believe that promotion of a positive perspective for young people, as well as assistance in improving their prosperity in the SEECP region is of utmost importance by increasing economic cooperation and by emphasizing the European perspective, because the capacities of young people are crucial for building more stable and coherent societies.
Finally, the participants underlined the need for good neighborly relations, mutual respect and honest political dialogue in resolving the outstanding issues.
The adoption of the Declaration ended the one-year chairmanship of BiH over this regional initiative, established 23 years ago in Sofia with the intention of creating an environment of trust, good neighborly relations and stability in the region. Kosovo is to take over the presidency from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
