Cardinal Puljić: There can be no trust without truth and justice

SARAJEVO, April 22 (FENA) - Our Christian faith is based on Christ's resurrection as well as on our hope. That is why I wish, not only for believers, but for all people, that each religious celebration strengthens man’s hope, but also enables him to be more human among human beings,” said the Archbishop of Vrhbosna, Cardinal Vinko Puljić, addressing the guests at today’s reception in Sarajevo organized on the occasion of celebrating Easter holiday.

“I mention this because, as the son of this country, I am genuinely concerned with the dark clouds of hopelessness that engulf many people, and lead them to despair until they turn against their own lives. This is particularly worrying and I am shaken by the tragedies brought about by crimes when people go against other people’s lives thus usurping what belongs to God,” said Cardinal Puljić.

Puljić also notes there are so many people in our country who say they are believers, "and this belief is denied at every turn, violating the basic commandments of God, with so much immorality, crime, corruption ..."

“We all want the process of reconciliation to be completed, to forgive and restore trust. But without truth and justice there can be no trust. Until each event is called by its real name: that a crime is a crime, regardless of who committed it, otherwise, it would be difficult to restore confidence. All who justify crimes or deny them become accomplices in that crime,” said Cardinal Puljić.

He added that he is a son of this country and therefore he speaks with love, does not attack anyone, but he wants to "truly build a better future together".

"We need to love this country and it is not difficult to give sacrifice for something you love. We need to build this country so that we feel safe in it, as it is our home. In this spirit I want these  kinds of events to create an atmosphere of celebration," said Cardinal Vinko Puljić, addressing the guests and officials at the Easter reception, including members of the BiH Presidency, Šefik Džaferović and Željko Komšić, Federation of BiH Prime Minister Fadil Novalić, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps, international organizations, and representatives of political, public and religious life in BiH.
