SARAJEVO, April 2 (FENA) - The BiH Border Police in the first three months of 2019 uncovered, in an attempt or immediately after the illegal crossing of the state border, 1,502 citizens of the countries of high migration risk and 2,471 persons were prevented from entering the territory of BiH from the neighboring countries, said today Director of the Border Police of BiH, Zoran Galić.
The largest number of illegal migrants comes from Pakistan, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Afghanistan, Palestine, India, Libya, Algeria, Bangladesh, Tunisia, Morocco and Turkey.
Galić presented the information to the BiH Border Police General Office at a meeting with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) sub-regional coordinator for the Western Balkans, and the Head of the Mission to BiH, Peter Van der Auweraert, where they discussed the current situation and the measures taken in order to suppress illegal migration.
Given the fact that this year, the number of illegal migrants trying to enter the territory of BiH has increased significantly compared to the previous period, Galić pointed out that the Border Police is taking measures in accordance with the Plan of Extraordinary Engagement of police officers and equipment in the zones of responsibility of the units that are exposed to increased migration pressure, which involves the maximum engagement of the available personnel and technical means.
The meeting also focused on joint projects of the Border Police of BiH and IOM, primarily projects related to the prevention of smuggling of migrants, trafficking in human beings and cross-border crime, detection of forged documents, risk analysis and other, stated the Border Police of BiH.
