SARAJEVO, February 13 (FENA) - Former president of Croatia and university law professor Ivo Josipović stated in Sarajevo last night that forming commissions to study already convicted war crimes will not change the past, but it can only ruin the future.
Josipović emphasized during a lecture at the Faculty for Criminal Science, Criminology and Security Studies of the University in Sarajevo on "Criminal Responsibility for War Crimes" that it is very important to talk about this because stepping away from culture of impunity towards culture which seeks and expects every war criminal to be punished means progress of humanity.
According to him, no commissions can change history because there are verdicts which exist and must be followed.
Josipović finds it is not wise to try and deny what has been determined by verdicts and what is backed by historical documents.
Asked to comment on current relations between Croatia and BiH, Josipović answered he regrets that relations are much worse than they were.
"I said at the beginning of my mandate that BiH is our most important neighbor because we are linked by a long border, friendship, complementary economy and culture, which should all be an advantage, not disadvantage. Unfortunately, there are currently political options in both countries that find it difficult to find common ground and we can only hope that will change," said Josipović.
