Indictment confirmed in Ramiz Dreković case, charged with war crime

SARAJEVO, January 25 (FENA) - On 18 January 2019, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina confirmed the indictment charging the accused Ramiz Dreković with the criminal offense of War Crimes against Civilians under Article 142(1) of the Criminal Code of the Socialist Federative Republic of Yugoslavia.

The indictment alleges that the accused Ramiz Dreković, during the state of war and armed conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina between the Army of RBiH and the Army of Republika Srpska, as the ARBiH 4th Corps Commander, acted in violation of the rules of international humanitarian law, specifically Article 3 of the Geneva Convention (IV) relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, of 12 August 1949, Articles 51, 57 and 85 of Protocol I Additional to the Geneva Convention of 12 August 1949 for the Protection of Victims of International Armed Conflicts, and Article 13 of Protocol II Additional to the Geneva Convention of 12 August 1949 for the Protection of Victims of Non-International Armed Conflicts, in the manner that between 21 May 1995 and 7 June 1995 he ordered an attack on the majority Serb populated town of Kalinovik, specifically by ordering the subordinate artillery units of the ARBiH 4th Corps, located in a broader territory of Bjelimići, Municipality of Konjic, to open artillery fire from 130 mm cannons and 105 mm, 122 mm and 155 mm howitzers on the civilian population by way of indiscriminate shelling of the populated area of Kalinovik, which was aimed at and caused the spreading of fear and terror among the civilian population in Kalinovik, during which members of the artillery units of the ARBiH 4th Corps carried out the orders by firing artillery rounds of great destructive power on the populated town of Kalinovik, stated the BiH Court.
