SARAJEVO, September 13 (FENA) - The BiH state court has issued an international warrant for the arrest of former military policeman Dragomir Kezunović who was convicted of involvement in killing civilians in Bosnia but now lives in Serbia.
The state court in Sarajevo told the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN) on Thursday that it issued an international warrant for the arrest of Dragomir Kezunović on July 20 after he was sentenced to 14 years in prison for his involvement in the shooting of 28 civilians in the Teslić area in 1992.
Kezunović attended the trial of his own free will although he lives in Serbia, but was not present for reading of the first-instance verdict in July this year, when he was sentenced to 14 years in prison for committing crimes in Teslić.
“Defendant Dragomir Kezunović lives in Novi Sad, in the Republic of Serbia. During the criminal proceedings in question, the prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina did not file a proposal to impose prohibitive or custody measures on defendant Kezunović because the defendant regularly attended hearings during the main trial,” the Bosnian state court said earlier this year.
After his non-attendance at the verdict, the court ordered him into custody.
Under the first-instance verdict, Kezunović, Dragan Marjanović, Saša Gavranović, Vitomir Dević and Zoran Šljuka were found guilty of taking 28 civilians, who were detained at police premises in Teslić and at Pribinić prison, to mount Borje on the night of June 17-18, 1992, and killing them.
According to the verdict, Marjanović was the commander of the Military Police Squad of the Bosnian Serb Army’s Teslić Brigade, while the other defendants were members of the squad and also part of the ‘Mice’ unit.
The verdict ruled that Gavranović, Dević and Šljuka shot the civilians together with others, but could only determine that Kezunović was nearby and “contributed to the murder of the 28 civilians”.
