BANJA LUKA, May 8 (FENA) - Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina Lars-Gunnar Wigemark said today in Banja Luka that the amendments to the BiH Election Law were an internal BiH issue, and that issues concerned with the implementation of election results remain to be solved in order not to become an obstacle to BiH's European path.
The EU expects, he added, that all stakeholders in this business show willingness to reach a compromise, instead of repeating known attitudes that do not lead anywhere.
Mr. Wigemark said that the EU countries were worried about the amendments to the BiH Criminal Code because they believe that this proposal of the BiH Ministry of Justice could jeopardize the existing fight against organized crime and corruption, as well as terrorism.
"It would be a step back in the process of European integration," he added in a statement to reporters.
He emphasized that the coordination mechanism should be used to harmonize all attitudes in BiH regarding European issues.
Following a meeting organized by BiH Foreign Minister Igor Crnadak today in Banja Luka with the ambassadors of the EU member states in BiH, as well as ambassadors of EU member states that are non-resident to BiH, Mr. Wigemark pointed out that an important period was now before the region to make certain breakthroughs on the European path, among which is the issue of digitalization.
Bulgarian Ambassador to BiH Avgustina Tzvetkova-Karabasheva stressed that the EU and Western Balkans Summit on May 17th in Sofia was the opportunity to re-emphasize the strategic importance of the region and the European path of its countries.
